Welcome to IEEEDuino – Registrations Now Open!

Dear IEEE Region 8 members,

We are pleased to announce a new interactive hardware design and build contest for students in selected sections of Region 8, IEEEDuino!

Applications to participate in the contest are now open

What is IEEEDuino?

IEEEDuino is a student-focused hardware contest to inspire student and graduate student members in Europe, Middle East and Africa to design, build, test and demonstrate an innovative project on an Arduino microcontroller. Innovators, makers, and developers across the region, have an opportunity to take part in a hardware design and build competition and compete against others in IEEE Region 8 and win great prizes for both winning and participating!

2020 has been a difficult year for many. This year’s theme is devices to help in tackling and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic – Creativity is key!

IEEEDuino 2021 is a pilot programme, taking place in 17 IEEE Region 8 sections this year. Please check the website to see if your section is participating!

How does the contest work?

IEEE Student or Graduate Student members are invited to enter the contest, either individually or in teams of up to three. Starting this week, teams will need to prepare their plan, design, and background and submit it to us by the deadline, which will be examined carefully.

From the submitted ideas, 30 submissions will be selected to participate in the build phase. If selected, students will receive an Arduino Nano microcontroller, funded by Region 8, to develop the idea.

When it’s finished, send us a short video of the system, and an explanation of how it works. A high-resolution photograph of the entry and a copy of the code will also be required for judging.

Do you know students that would be interested in participating?

As professional IEEE members, we would greatly appreciate it if you could promote the contest within your IEEE Section, university or professional community and network. We would encourage you to share the updates on social media, create promotional materials (possibly in your local language and style), and direct people towards the registration portal.

Registration for student participants is now open, please check our website for details: https://ieeeduino.org/

IEEEDuino Judging Team

Some weeks ago, we made a call for IEEE members to join the IEEEDuino volunteer judging team. We received an overwhelming response from this call, and are notifying successful applicants this week. Please check your e-mail (including spam folder) for a message from the IEEEDuino Team, and whitelist this address to continue receiving updates!

Best Regards,

The IEEEDuino Team
